History of East Gardendale Baptist Church
In 1998, a journey of faith began with a dream to build a new church in Gardendale, AL. Those early visionaries began holding services in the childhood home of the Founding Pastor, Reverend Ray Moore. Later, a storefront building at 805 Main Street was purchased and renovated to accommodate the church’s growth. Reverend Allen Davis accepted the position as Senior Pastor in January 2001, after serving as interim for sixteen months.
Six acres of land was purchased at 360 Tarrant Road, a new, larger building was constructed and we moved in April 2008, where we continue to grow. We work in close cooperation with the Birmingham Baptist Association and our efforts are united to assist in disaster relief and other mission endeavors.
Our own outreach events throughout the year provide opportunities for our church family to live a Christian witness to their neighbors. In the spring, we host an egg hunt and in May we have our annual fish fry, we host our HomeComing celebration and VBS in June. In August, we have a revival series called August Alive. We have another outdoor celebration in the Fall. All of these events are free to the public and enable us to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our community.
Currently, we have ten Sunday School classes as well as Women’s and Men’s Bible Study Classes during the week to provide additional fellowship and growth. In 2014, a new men’s Bible Study Class was formed and they meet each Monday night. On Wednesday nights we meet for our church-wide mid-week Prayer and Bible Study service.
A nursery is provided for children ages birth up to 3 years of age during all of our Church Services. On Sundays, we provide Children’s Church for children ages 3 through 3rd grade. In April 2014, we brought back the “puppets” during Children’s Church. Our Youth have been outstanding in that Ministry. Our Youth meet on Sunday mornings and on Wednesday nights. Bible Study and wholesome fun activities are provided throughout the year for all age groups from young to seniors.
While the work of East Gardendale Baptist Church has continued to grow beyond the vision of its founders, its mission remains the same: “to provide a haven of rest, fellowship and love for the believer and a place of hope for the lost.”
